What we're building
The Brooklyn Choir Project is a community choir Jaren Feeley started this spring for neighbors who love to sing but have never had a place to do it together. Some of our singers grew up in church choirs and haven't sung in twenty years. Some have never sung in front of anyone. Twice a week, twenty of us rehearse in a church basement in Brooklyn, learning a program of songs that means something to this neighborhood.
Where it's headed
We're six weeks from our debut concert — a real premiere, in a real venue, with a small band backing us up. This is the first time most of these voices will be heard by an audience that isn't family.
What the money is for
- Venue rental for the premiere night
- Paying our three accompanying musicians fairly
- Sheet music and rehearsal space through the run
- A modest stipend for Jaren, who has volunteered his time since January
Why pledge, not donate
We only collect if we hit the goal — so a pledge here costs you nothing unless the whole neighborhood shows up for it. And when it does, our matching partners double every dollar. That's the whole idea.
